Palestinian Sesame Tea cookies is a very simple and quick recipe that combines flour, fennel, ghee, delicious sesame seeds and topped with simple syrup or honey. One cookie won't be enough!

Palestinian Sesame Tea Cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups flour
  • ¼ cup ghee softened, not melted
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon bakers ammonia or ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground anise
  • 1 teaspoon fennel
  • dash table salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup water
  • 1-2 cups toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup or honey

Instructions
 

  • Sift the flour, baking powder, fennel, anise, salt, and bakers ammonia together.
  • Add the softened ghee and oil together and mix well until crumbly.
  • Add the powdered sugar, water, and vanilla into a bowl and mix well until powdered sugar is dissolved.
  • Add the mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well until dough forms.
  • Cover and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  • Once done, cut into 15 pieces and shape.
  • Mix the toasted sesame seeds with syrup or honey together.
  • Dip the cookies in the mixture as much or as little as you like.
  • Place the cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake at 350℉ for 20 to 24 minutes, or until the bottom is golden.
  • Let them rest for 10 minutes before touching.

Notes

  • subbing baking soda for bakers ammonia can have some textural changes
