The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him described talbina as soothing for the sad and worried. As a Muslim, I take into consideration all of his prophetic advice and doings, and this Talbina recipe is a way to live in his footsteps.
1teaspooncinnamon(as an optional mix in, originally no cinnamon goes in it)
honeyfor topping
datesfor topping
nutsfor topping
Instructions
To start, add the barley flour to a pot on medium high heat. Whisk for 2-4 minutes, until the flour starts to toast and turn brown.
If you're adding in cinnamon, add it here.
Immediately add in the milk or water, and continuously whisk together until the talbina comes together and is thickened, about 2-5 minutes.
Transfer the talbina to servings bowls, and top with honey, chopped dates, and nuts.
Enjoy warm.
Notes
Toast the barley flour for better flavor. You can add in the cinnamon while mixing or use it as a topping.Do not add honey to the milk mixture while cooking it as it may reduce the nutrients.
