Simply amazing!

Who Needs Magic Beans When You Can Have Chickpeas with Beef?

Chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans, are a rich source of vitamins, fiber, and minerals. They are affordable and taste great.

Tahini is a creamy paste easily made from toasted ground hulled sesame and oil. It is a staple of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines. Its nutty flavor is strong with a slight bitterness. Perhaps, its essential role is to add a distinctive flavor to hummus, but it can also be used as an essential ingredient in halva and baba ghanoush.

Tender thin sirloin steak coming from the back portion of the cow or small bite-sized pieces of lamb beef blended with seven spice, coriander powder, and black pepper brighten it all up.

Finally, a simple touch of garlic, cumin, and lemon boosts the flavor!

You can easily find all these ingredients in gardens, farms, and markets, thus adding to the availability and popularity of the dish!

Believe in the power of chickpeas, and try this irresistible hummus bil lahme packed with protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

Other Hummus Versions!

One of the famous hummus versions is msabbaha. You can just make it with lemon-spiked tahini garnished with whole chickpeas.

Another exotic vegan recipe could be chickpea salad with lemon, parmesan, and fresh herbs.

Furthermore, you can fry up some heart-healthy falafel balls made up of blended chickpeas with onion, garlic, parsley, cumin, and baking soda.

Moreover, you can prepare crispy roasted chickpeas as protein-packed vegan snack.

Whenever you have time and you’re not in a rush, you can make a batch of homemade hummus instead of canned chickpeas and use it for all the above hummus recipes in addition to our favorite Hummus Bil Lahme.

Just add dried chickpeas and water to the pressure cooker and cook at high pressure for 50 minutes. Keep the lid sealed, then let it naturally release for 10 minutes, and that’s it!

The Best Mezza!

Hummus merged with tahini and topped with toasted nuts and pomegranate arils.
Bliss on a plate!

How is Hummus Best Served?

For spicy lovers, adding roasted red pepper can be a great option.

Pairing hummus with pita bread or warm Arabic bread is a classic way to enjoy this savory dish.

You can also use tortilla chips or your favorite crackers.

No matter how served, never miss this flavorful dip!

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I make this recipe vegan with the same taste?

Use an earthy mix of mushrooms in place of the meat with the same searing and spice treatment, and you’ll hardly detect the difference.

Can I use ground beef instead of sirloin steak?

Sure, heat ground beef in a large skillet for 5 to 7 minutes and don’t forget the spices!

Do we serve hummus bl lahme cold or warm?

Hummus can be served cold or warm. But the topped lahme and pine-nuts are best served warm.

How to store the leftovers?

Hummus without sirloin and garlic can be refrigerated for 4-5 days in a well-sealed, air tight container that allows no oxygen, and thus no bacteria and other food odors.

Tips for Creamy Dreamy Hummus Bil Lahme

Choose the best quality tahini with a light color for an authentic-tasting hummus dip.

Watch pine nuts carefully as they tend to burn easily when toasting.

Use ice cubes while making hummus. It sounds bizarre, but adding ice cubes is really a great trick for fluffy, creamy and whipped hummus.

I love adding yogurt to hummus. Sometimes, tahini flavor is a little strong, and yogurt helps in making your hummus lighter, creamier, and tangier too.

The secret to the smoothest, most luxurious hummus is the order in which you add the ingredients to the food processor. Jump to the recipe card and you’ll reach the goal!

Ingredients for the Delicious Hummus Bil Lahme

For the Topping Meat (Lahme), You’ll Need:

Sirloin steak: The lean top sirloin steak has lots of protein and vitamins.

Spices: You will need 7 spices, coriander powder, black pepper, and salt, to boost the flavor of the meat topping.

Toasted pine nuts + pomegranate seeds.

For Hummus, You’ll Need:

Chickpeas: Canned chickpeas give you the silky-smooth texture you need for this Hummus Bil Lahme recipe.

Lemon juice: It gives the blend a tart balance.

Tahini: It is one of hummus’ main ingredients, along with chickpeas and lemon.

Garlic: Use some garlic and add the pungent punch you need.

Salt and Cumin: Add more flavor to your recipe.

Water: Adding cold water is an important step to have a super fluffy creamy hummus.

Steps to prepare the creamy Hummus Bil Lahme

First of all, prepare the topping meat (Lahme)

At the beginning, cut up the sirloin steak into small, thin pieces.

Then, in a pan, add the oil and let it heat for 1 minute. After that, add the sirloin steak pieces.

Next, sprinkle with the spices and salt.

At the end, cook until your desired doneness (I do mine for about 10 minutes)

Now, follow these steps to prepare hummus:

To begin, add the tahini and lemon juice to a food processor and process until a thick cream appears.

Then, scrape down the sides, add the garlic and olive oil, and process again.

Next, scrape down the sides again and add 1 can of drained chickpeas then process.

After that, add the other drained can of chickpeas.

At this moment, I like adding 2 tablespoons of yogurt, I find it lightens the tahini flavor but also adds creaminess.

Now, drizzle in the cold water while the food processor is running.

If available, add 2 ice cubes to make it extra creamy.

The food processor should stay running until the mixture gets creamy.

Finally, add the spiced sirloin, toasted pine nuts, and pomegranate seeds.

Serve with pita bread or warm Arabic bread and enjoy!
